On November 17th, the Peace Education and Action Center will hold a general meeting and reception to introduce the community to its newly formed Speakers Bureau. Speakers
Bureau members are willing to speak to community groups, schools, and
church groups on issues related to peace and justice. The event will take place from 7-9pm at the Friends Meetinghouse, 3139 57th Street, Sarasota. Members
of the Speakers Bureau will briefly introduce themselves and the topics
they speak on to the audience and there will be time to talk with them
individually during the reception.
The
Peace Education and Action Center serves as a resource center for
educators, youth and families on topics related to justice,
peacemaking, and nonviolence. The
Speakers Bureau involves a diverse set of individuals and covers topics
from interpersonal relations to societal issues to global concerns,
because peace is contingent on many factors. Members of the Speakers
Bureau will share on their areas of expertise and topics of interest,
including representatives from Florida Veterans for Common Sense, Dr.
Andrea Blanch, founder of Center for Religious Tolerance,
Beverly Hill, Phd. candidate and Shelter Box response team member,
Samar Jarrah, journalist and educator, Drew Hudson, PEACenter board
member and organic farm worker, Laurel Schiller, biologist and owner of Florida Native Plants, Arlene Sweeting, station manager for WSLR community radio,
Adam Tebrugge, attorney and advocate for justice reform, and Dr. Cece
Yocum, psychologist and trainer for Alternatives to Violence Program.
Complete information on the Speakers Bureau is available at the Peace Center website: www.sarasotapeacenter.org. Many
of the speakers are willing to speak at little or no cost to your
organization because they have a deep passion and commitment to the
topics on which they speak. For more information, call Arlene at (941) 894-6469.
